Just an overview of roadwork for year. As voted on by members at a prior annual meeting, we put in a new culvert on Bold Springs Rd and replaced rusted out culvert on Parris Branch. A number of dead trees threatening road were cut down and left for anyone who lives on the mountain and needed firewood. Also branches, hanging vines, etc. were removed if they were encroaching on road.
Another hard winter meant snow removal a number of times. Again, Jim Frisbie and Bill Bruegger saved us money by clearing the lower half of the mountain several times. We did have to have the snow plow in, but the strain on the budget was not nearly what it could have been.
There were some torrential rains during the winter and also spring into summer. Ditches and culverts filled with mud and water overran the road several times, causing gullies and generally bad road conditions. We had to do some extra grading to repair damage.
Another area of the paving will be repaired this summer--a run of about 500 feet--to fix the worst area of damaged paving. This will cover the road from just below Johnny Knob and the areas where the pavement is broken and/or coming up. We will notify those living on the mountain as to when this will take place.
